Introduction

Are you comfortable in your OWN home? Have you ever thought that one day you could be obliged to escape from your country because a danger will threat your life? Have you ever thought that one day you could become part of this flow? Have you ever thought that one day you could be A REFUGEE?
Bring light on the current facts and you will see that entire peoples are experiencing such unfair situations. It’s time to change. It’s time to make a change. No more violations, no more deprivations. It’s time to hear the voices of those people who are asking for asylum and to make a definitive change. It’s a race against time!

"Don't miss the boat" will be looking at refugees under different points of view, with a main but not exclusive focus on the situation in Italy. Valentina, in particular, is going to discuss the legal procedures regarding refugees in Italy, with a focus on what happens in the city of Padua. Emanuela is going to analyse the integration policies put in place for refugees in Italy and in Europe. Andrea and Luisa are going to consider the topic through a wider perspective, analysing respectively the more general phenomenon of (and the problems related with) migrations and immigrants in Italy, and the reaction of the public opinion towards the refugees present in Italy (and towards the policies activated to deal with this phenomenon). Anna, Enrico and Julia are finally going to focus on the situation of refugees in three specific areas: the island of Lampedusa, the state of Australia (with its peculiar and problematic immigration and asylum policies), and the state of Poland.
